You are probably saying to yourself?  Why would I take a class on design when I’m barely able to draw and paint?  I found out some suggestions in my years of teaching watercolor and rosemaling.  If you know a few design principles…all painting mediums, weaving, quilting, stained glass, whatever you do looks better, and your results are more satisfying.

You know the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words!” I seem to learn by seeing and doing and not reading, so I invented my own way to get it across, and it seems to work!  I will show you examples to simplify the rules and how to adapt them to your creations.  Here are some of the comments I’ve had from participants...”I had this in college, but I never made sense of it till now!” I went to Arizona and used it in my stain glass class, I formed my patterns using the ideas you gave me, and they worked!”  A student took the class and went back to her painting group and 16 of them arrived for their own special session!

I'm starting another weekly Watercolor classes on Wednesday, Sept 6th at the Hanover City Hall (It’s not far from Rogers at 11250 5th St NE, Hanover, MN 55341).

The class will start at 9am until noon. Please contact me about the cost.

Patterns will be available. A supply list is available upon registration. I need a minimum of 6 students, maximum of 10.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint with watercolor, but were afraid to give it a try? Well, here’s your chance. Start lessons at the Roger’s Senior Center on Monday October 3. Beginners will start on at 9 am until 12, pm. Just bring yourself and an open mind, we will talk about how to test brushes, choose paper and paint, and share in purchasing supplies to get started. Join in with others to a getaway in Lanesboro

The theme of the workshop will be painting reflections, some are Northwoods, some are on water and some are winter, all are good exercises for learning how to practice reflections.

Cost of this class is $250. Time of the class is 9:30 til 3:30 and in the past we have shared pot luck food, or bring your own lunch. There is a play at the Commonwealth Theater across the street which also is a fun event to attend.

Fall is a great time to be in Lanesboro as the locals treat you so well after the summer rush is over! There are 6 rooms set aside for us at the Cottage House Inn, so reservations will be $100. per night the double beds and can be shared or as a single. You can also drive in daily.

There are only 10 spots in the classroom, so don’t delay!

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR CLASSES _

The dates available at the Winery in July that we could start on are.  July 23. 24 & 25th or 2nd choice July 9, 10 & 11th  at the  Garvin Heights Winery.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Class fee is $250.

Time of the class is 9:30 to 3:30 with a half hour for lunch.

What you will get in this class is the equivalent of a 6 week Beginner Watercolor Class.  We will discuss all the supplies and what, where and why you purchase them, practicing techniques, and having a blast! Hopefully we will get a painting at the end!  I am offering to order palettes and paint, It is a Quiller palette and then  divide it into each palette so everyone gets the same colors.  Last year the cost of this palette was $127.  If you know already that you want to order a palette and all the colors, let me know I can order the paint now.  I have some brushes, they are good brushes, and I will also order 60 of the bamboo brushes which I do most of my painting with.  They are usually around $4. Paper is available but if you want to buy your own, preferred is Arches 140 lb. cold press.  Ask for a supply list as you will have no time to shop once we arrive!  I can sell you enough paint for each day if you prefer.  Please register if you are coming to either event!  I need to know !!

The Bluff Country Studio Art Tour is committed solely to the production of its spring studio tour. The group’s mission is threefold – 1) to create an opportunity for the area residents and visitors to experience the wide range of high quality art that is created in our region.   During the event, artists provide tours of their studios, explain the process of making their art, answer questions and do live demonstrations throughout the weekend. 2) to promote the Bluff Country’s artist community as an attraction for cultural tourism.  Southeastern Minnesota is known for many of its attractions and this event highlights our vibrant community of artists. 3) to increase the audience and customer base for the diverse fine art and fine craft created in Southeastern Minnesota.  Many award winning artists call this area home and only open their studios once a year during this event.
